I assist the first grade class at Doty Elementary. The students have gotten a lot more used to my presence since the first session. I’ve been able to take an active part in the class, and many of the students look forward to my presence. Being able to form a connection with young people while having a positive influence on their lives has influenced me positively. Most days I leave the program feeling upbeat and positive.
Over my first few weeks at Doty Elementary, I have been able to learn a few things. First, I better understand the influence of peers and adults on individual motivation, and I am able to notice how their brains are different from ours in terms of development. Interestingly enough, adults act like 1st graders much more than we’d like to admit.
